Should I use a dryer sheet if I use liquid fabric softener?
No. Use one or the other. Too much fabric softener can build up over time and affect dryer performance. If you choose a dryer sheet, appliance manufacturers recommend cutting it in half.
Can I use hand dish soap in my dishwasher?
No. Liquid dish soap made for hand washing can cause excessive sudsing, and that can make the dishwasher leak.
Should I turn off a warm refrigerator before service?
No. If the refrigerator is not cooling, keep it running so the technician can diagnose the problem while it is in its not-cooling state.
Can a blocked dryer vent affect dryer performance?
Yes. Check the outside dryer vent regularly for lint obstruction and good airflow.
Will hard water harm my dishwasher?
Long-term hard water use can harm the dishwasher and affect its ability to clean well.
Tip #1: Dryer performance
For best dryer performance and to help prevent fire risk, inspect the outside vent weekly for lint obstruction and good airflow.
Tip #2: Dishwasher performance
Run water at the kitchen sink until hot just before starting your dishwasher. Soft water can improve washability and extend appliance life.
Tip #3: Laundry
Use a small nylon mesh laundry bag for small articles such as children's socks. Check pockets carefully and remove keys, hair pins, safety pins, coins, and similar items before washing.
Tip #4: Fabric softener
If using liquid fabric softener in the washer, use a very small diluted amount. If using a dryer sheet, cut it in half.
Tip #5: Dishwashing
For white residue or poor washability, the legacy FAQ recommended Finish Glass Magic and 20 Mule Team Borax. If problems continue, schedule a service call.
